Where have I been? And my plans for May.

As you may have noticed.. I haven’t posted a blog post in quite awhile.
Why? You may ask.

It’s not like I’ve been super busy or anything but every extra time I have, I’ve been using to write or read even more. I had a few posts planned for separate weeks but I never finished them and just kept forgetting. I’m not going to make excuses for my spelt, but I will say that I haven’t been posting lately mostly because I didn’t know what to write about and I just have been putting it off. Basically I’m just telling you all what a horrible blogger I’ve been…
What do I plan on blogging about?

I want to write about more than just bookish things. So that’s exactly what I’m going to try to do, but don’t worry, I’ll still be writing about books. I plan on doing book hauls, wrap ups, reviews, tbrs and more, but I also plan on talking about other things like my life and events I’ll be going to and maybe things like life hacks or guides to a successful bookstagram and things like that..

I’d gladly take any post requests if you have any.
What have I been reading?

In April, I was in a HUGE reading slump and only read two—almost three—books.

I read one for a reading program at school, and that was Fragile Bones by Lorna Schultz Nicholson. I rated that book 3/5 stars because I enjoyed it but didn’t absolutely fall in love with it..

The second book I read was City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. This was my first time reading this book and again it was another 3/5 stars for the same reason and also that it was very slow paced and boring. I’m not saying anything against this book or the author, just that it’s not my favourite out of the series. 3 stars is not a bad rating, it’s just not the best. Cassandra Clare is a brilliant author and I love the books I’ve read of hers. I would gladly reccomend them to anyone, anyway.

Since I am marathoning this series, the next book that I started and finished in May was  City of Glass by Cassandra Clare. This book was an easy 5/5 stars for me because so many exciting and amazing things happened and I loved it all! I’m so happy to finally be reading this series! Gahhh!
My May TBR

I’ve already read City Of Glass so now I am planning on reading the rest of the Mortal Instruments series this month and if I finish it, I will either read Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys or start The Infernal Devices companion trilogy to The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, depending on what genre I’m feeling more..
So that’s my update for you all! Thanks for reading!

Let me know in the comments if you have any post recommendations and what your May TBR is… ❤️

The Leibster award

Hi guys, so I was nominated by the lovely Bethsbookishcorner for the Leibster award, though I know I don’t deserve it, that’s just how nice of a person Beth is! I encourage you all to go over and check out her blog! Anyways, I just wanted to thank her for nominating me! 😘

I nominate Becs bookshelf, So bookish blog, Turning pages, and The mind of a book nerd.

(Hopefully all the links work 😁 I’m sort of new to this..)

Rules:

  1. Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you in a post.
  2. Answer 11 questions the blogger gives you in their post. Meaning if you are nominated, my questions…
  3. Nominate 11 blogs you think are deserving of this award and let them know you have nominated them.. In my case I only nominated four because I haven’t read too many blogs yet…
  4. Give them 11 questions of your own for them to answer.

Here are the questions that Beth has asked me:

  1. Hyped book or book series that you didn’t like? Hmmm… I loved The fault in our stars when I read it, and it was very hyped but now if I read it, I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy it half as much as I did, and why? I don’t know. I guess the only other one I could really say is The fifth wave, and though I did like it, it took me awhile to read and I didn’t look forward to reading it when I picked it up… But something just kept making me pick it up and finish it. I’m not sure that I’ll read The infinite sea though..
  2. Do you like listening to music whilst you read? Sometimes yes, but mostly I read in the quiet, or at least as close to quiet I can get at my house.. there’s always people talking or a tv on… So I definetly don’t find music a distraction.
  3. Favourite place to read? My favourite place to read? I guess I would say my bed or the couch… Sometimes I sit outside in the summer or fall but other than that I don’t think I really read anywhere else…
  4. Do you use your local library? Yes. I use my local library only every so often because as I’m sure most people relate, I like to have my own copy of the book and special editions as well. Though I do find many awesome books at my local library and should really start going there more.
  5. Are you a spine breaker or are you always careful? I guess you could say I’m both.. I mean, I don’t purposely try to break the spine but if it happens, it happens. I am still planning on reading the book so what’s the point in not reading it just to save the spine?
  6. Favourite book to movie adaption? I guess I would have to say The fault in our stars or divergent… I thought this movies weren’t missing much from the book, and the actors all did an amazing job developing the characters. Oh! I almost forgot Harry Potter! That book to movie adaption was amazing, and watching the films first may have a big part in that but I think many people agree with me on this!
  7. All time favourite book? I have asked Beth this question before and I am going to reply with the exact same answer as she did. Could you have asked a harder question? I can’t just choose one book/book series, so instead I’ll just name but a few. Harry Potter and Twilight are definetly some, as is the Throne of glass series. I can’t forget the Mortal instruments series, though I have only just finished the first book, I am certain that this series will be at the top of my list!
  8. Do you read/write any fanfiction about your favourite characters? I like to read some fanfiction on bookstagram but other than that I don’t really read or write it too much…
  9. Which book character do you think your most like? Hmmmm…. Again, what a hard question. I want to say that I’m like all of the badass characters that kill demons or cast spells to defeat a Gillian or some other downworlder, but sadly I’m not. Though I can’t exactly say that I don’t know how to use any weapons or fight.. I can use a bow and arrow, throw knives, punch and kick properly (but very forcefully 😁😂) and I occasionally practice charms… (If only I wasn’t a muggle) The truth is, I honestly don’t know what character I’m most like.
  10. Are you a fan of audio books? I wouldn’t know, I haven’t listened to any. Though when I get my licence, I may like them since I can pretty much read books in the car.
  11. What’s the most you’ve spent on books in one go? I’m not exactly sure but I think about $80 or maybe $60 but I definetly don’t regret it!

My questions for you:

  1. What’s an average range of time that it takes you to read a book?
  2. Do you like to write? If so, what about, what genre?
  3. Do you like to draw character from books and movies?
  4. Have you ever watched a play of a book that you’ve read?
  5. Have you ever enjoyed the movie more than the book?
  6. Do you have any bookish merchandise?
  7. What’s the lowest rating that you’ve given a book?
  8. Have you ever participated in a book club or book group?
  9. Have you ever went to a book signing?
  10. What kind of blogs do you read?
  11. Do you have a favourite book series? If so, what is it?

      Thanks for reading 😘

      January Wrap Up!

I have been in a big reading slump lately and barely got three books read in January, but I’m still going to attempt a Wrap up blog!

The first book I read was Winter by Marrissa Meyers.

I loved this book so very much, all 824 pages of it! I thought it was very well-written and the characters just kept getting better and better, not to mention the romance! I love how they all stuck together even when they were not. They fought for each other and were willing to sacrifice their lives for one another, fight the control of a thaumaturge rather than turn against one another. I don’t want to give anything away so I’m not going to say much more about this outstanding book!

      Rating: 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The second book I read was Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

Thus book too was wonderful but I did find it a bit slow in the beginning.. I also thought it was pretty predictable, that was…….until I got to the end. If you’ve read this book, you know what I’m talking about.. You know, that crazy plot twist that left everyone in shock? Yeah, that’s the one… Haha but seriously, if you haven’t read it yet, I would add it to your TBR list.. The end of the book was beyond amazing and I was so satisfied with the he ending, and am looking forward to reading the next book!

      Rating: 4.5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

The last but certainly not least book I read was Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets by J.K Rowling.

Yes yes I know, I haven’t read all of the Harry Potter books yet… But I’m working on it! The first book was way better than I thought it would be,and now reading the second book has made me way over obsessed with Harry Potter, but you know, isn’t every book reader? I have not words to say about this book other than GO READ IT!

Rating: 6.5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (seriously, this book deserves that rating.)

As always, I love you guys, and thanks for reading my blog!😘

Go check out my bookstagram as well! http://instagram.com/the_pleasures_of_books
(Also, just a little disclaimer, sorry for the no photo post, I didn’t have very much time so I couldn’t add any photos, but I hope it’s still worthy of reading 😁😁)
